Samsudeen Mohomed Rinos, thought that finding the IT job he wanted was a distant dream until a software development center opened in his hometown. This center was possible because of the assistance provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) the the Connecing Regional Economies (CORE) project. For Rinos, this assistance meant much more, for his dream is now a reality.

A Fruitful Venture – A young mother's successes with USAID assistance

For years, Sriyani Pushpalatha, a young mother living in Kovul Ara Village in Sri Lanka with her husband and two children aged 3 and 10, struggled to make ends meet. Each day she woke before daybreak and got ready to sell a few vegetables in her small windowless shop but despite all her efforts, it was not enough, they sold few and at low prices. Sriyani and her husband had been looking unsuccessfully for opportunities that would provide more than a meager income while allowing her to care for her children. Never giving up, she finally found a ray of hope when they learned of the initiatives of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). With the assistance of USAID, Sriyani is now a grower of high quality papayas, with a contract with wholesale buyers willing to buy her fruit at a very good and guaranteed price.

Empowering a Dairy Farmer to Improve his Life

For years Wahab and his wife would milk their two cows knowing it would not be enough. Most of the time they milked less than one liter each day, then they would need to decide if they would sell it or give it to their children. Each day was a constant struggle just to survive. Today, thanks to the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Wahab is empowered to improve his dairy business and his family's life.
